Artevelde University of Applied Sciences and Ambrassade partnered with us to create the Waddist platform, aimed at engaging and educating young people while facilitating research. The objective was to bridge the gap between youth and research while fostering a sense of community and understanding.
Our approach to designing the Waddist mobile application was rooted in user-centric principles. We aimed to create a user-friendly and engaging tool to encourage critical thinking and open-mindedness among young users. We incorporated the following features:
We also introduced a gamified element, where users unlock new designs as they engage with the app.
To ensure the app’s accessibility across different platforms, we employed React Native, enabling us to write a single codebase for both iOS and Android. We leveraged EXPO for streamlined updates, ensuring users always have the latest version.
In addition to the mobile app, we developed a web application on Django, serving as a dashboard for researchers. This application streamlines the scheduling of questions and tips, offers data export capabilities for research purposes, and generates graphical representations of data. To enrich research insights, we collected demographic data during user registration, such as birthdate, gender, and postal code.
The collaborative efforts of Artevelde University, Ambrassade, and Inuits in developing the Waddist platform have successfully created an engaging and user-friendly tool that bridges the gap between young people and research. With a commitment to ongoing improvement and maintenance, Waddist is poised to continue fostering critical thinking, open-mindedness, and a sense of community among its users while supporting valuable research endeavors.
